Briefly Seen
/ Prototype SP ArtyThere were a great many attempts during the war to provide vehicles to fill the gaps that operations had indicated. One of those was the need for artillery which provided its own mobility and armour protection. Canada was producing tanks, armoured cars and carriers before it undertook the task of designing the 25 Pounder SP, Sexton, so it was no surprise that there were designs for light arty vehicles based upon chassis already available. These shots show two such projects, the 2Pr SP on the Universal Carrier and the 6Pr SP on the Fox armoured car. The 2Pr was produced in small quantities (some 200-odd) and was used in a training role, whereas the 6Pr Fox was only a prototype (to the best of my knowledge). Additionally, and to show that SPs were not the only project, there was the Fox Tower, a turretless armoured car modified to provide an armoured towing capability for the 6Pr gun. This also was just a prototype.
