Soviet 2S3 152mm Self-Propelled Howitzer
These photos show the 2S3 152mm self-propelled howitzer in the standard one
colour paint scheme which was the Soviet standard for many years and the three
tone scheme that started to appear in the mid 1980s. There are also shots of the
hull (without turret) showing detail as well as others with turret detail.
Finally a shot of one type of ammunition showing both projectile and casing,
solid and cutaway. Once thought to be an effective artillery piece, with the
combining of the two Germanys a closer look revealed a very crude and difficult
machine to operate, having an internal lining of raw asbestos, which immediately
ensured that all such vehicles on the new German equipment scale were relegated
to the scrap heap.
